Choosing and applying a template
What a Depentra template installs, which plans can use which templates, and what happens if a template is larger than your task limit.
What a template installs
A template is not just a list of tasks. Applying one can install four things at once: starter tasks already sorted into groups and, where it makes sense, already linked by dependencies; custom columns specific to that kind of work; pre-configured views; and automations switched on from day one.
A recruiting template, for example, arrives with candidates in stage groups, Email, Phone, and CV link columns, a table plus an intake form plus an interview calendar plus a dashboard, and two automations. Each template page in the library lists exactly what that template creates.
Which templates your plan can use
Library templates carry a tier. Basic-tier templates need the Basic plan or above, Standard-tier templates need Standard or above, and Professional-tier templates need Professional. Starter does not include the library.
The Demo project and the Blank project are available on every plan, including Starter, so a free account can always start from either a full worked example or an empty project.
If a template is bigger than your task limit
Templates vary in size. If the one you pick creates more tasks than your plan allows per project, the install is refused before anything is written, and the message tells you how many tasks the template creates and how many your plan allows.
Nothing is partially applied in that case. You either get the whole template or an unchanged project.
After applying
Everything a template creates is ordinary project content. Rename the groups, delete the columns you do not want, turn the automations off, add views. There is no ongoing link back to the template, so nothing you change can be overwritten later.
